About Us
Chabad is a home for all things Jewish. We are founded on the principle that, while Jews may embrace many levels of observance in their personal lives, there should be a place for all Jews, no labels, no affiliations, to develop a sense of community, to enhance the experience of being Jewish, to learn, and to enjoy Judaism. We provide Jewish holiday programming, adult and youth education, social services, and much more. But perhaps more importantly, on a personal level, Chabad serves as a shoulder to lean on, a friend, and a place to turn to at any time.

Chabad of Wakefield is dedicated to providing an open-door environment to strengthen Jewish life for every Jew of every age regardless of background, philosophy, or level of commitment.

What Our Community Is Saying

Having both the pleasure and honor of getting to know Rabbi Brook, Devora and their lovely family since they moved recently to the neighborhood, I am struck by the synergy of their passion for celebrating life, cultivating learning and conveying Jewish spirituality.

Their acceptance and unabashed desire to bring people together regardless of disparate backgrounds is palpable and magnetic… these are inspirational characteristics my family has been missing from our desire for greater spirituality, and I am so grateful for Chabad of Wakefield entering our lives!

Through Chabad of Wakefield, my family and I have found the deeper connection and understanding of Judaism that we had been searching for. We have become part of a joyous and friendly community.

Via the direct enthusiastic guidance of Rabbi Brook, Mezuzahs, Tefillin, Havdalah, Shabbat, and more have all become a meaningful part of our family life.

My parents are Ukrainian Americans who were born under communism and faced persecution for their religion. They’re very proud to be Jewish, but because of their circumstances, they had very little religious tradition or education to pass down mostly just a strong sense of Jewish pride...

But I do want my children to understand and appreciate their heritage. That’s where the Jewish Kids Club comes in. My kids genuinely love attending, and it’s been a wonderful way for our family to stay connected to our roots.

We joined Chabad of Wakefield because we wished to be part of a welcoming community where we could celebrate and study our Jewish heritage.

Daily Thought
Some people think that if they were truly spiritual, they would never eat. In truth, few acts are as divine as eating food. Eating is similar to sifting gold. You grasp the divine spark within a food and reject the dross. And then, in the mitzvahs energized by that food, you carry that divine spark back to its origin within the oneness of its Creator. That is why there are foods that are forbidden and foods that are permissible. The Hebrew word for “forbidden” is assur—meaning tied down. “Permissible” is mutar—untied. Kosher means “fit.” Foods that are assur are not fit for the divine act of eating...
